Getting the Results

Exact Sciences Laboratories will deliver the results to your office. The results will also be uploaded to the portal. It is the responsibility of the provider to notify patients of their result.

How to read the report

What does a positive result mean?

A positive result does not necessarily mean a patient has cancer. It means that Cologuard detected abnormal DNA and/or hemoglobin biomarkers in the stool which are associated with CRC or advanced adenoma. False positives and false negatives occur with Cologuard and appropriate follow-up is important. Patients with a positive result should have a diagnostic colonoscopy.

A negative result means that Cologuard did not detect significant levels of abnormal DNA and/or hemoglobin biomarkers in the stool which are associated with CRC or advanced adenoma. False positives and false negatives occur with Cologuard and appropriate follow-up is important. Patients with a negative result should continue in a screening program appropriate for the patient.

If the sample cannot be processed, or a valid result is not obtained, the patient may be asked to provide a new sample.
